Sepher Software is the name of the company of Rob Vens, which has to legs:
- Free and open source tools, under Products
- Consulting and services in the areas of software development and architecture, under Services
Its symbolism hit me years ago when I studied Semitic languages on the University of Nijmegen in The Netherlands. I found the translation of an old manuscript named Sepher Yetzirah. Sepher is a Hebrew word, but it is the source of our word cipher, cijfer in Dutch. The diagram is also called the Tree of Life and consists of ten circles connected with edges, total 22.
To the left you can see the Tree of Life diagram (Sepher Sephiroth) which is a mystical representation of the decimal system. This numerical system has played a key role in the development of modern science, and eventually of computer technology. In the diagram you can see for example the symbolical progression of the first three numbers (three shades of grey) to the second three (primary colours), the third triad (the three mixed colours) and finally the tenth containing all colours in four quadrants. These numbers, especially when combined with the number zero (not visible in the diagram, but it was part of the Tree of Life symbolism called Ain Soph Aur), produced an infinitesimally more effective calculus. For more on the history of science read here.
All elements in the diagram are named, including the paths connecting the elements. Below you can see some old representations of this diagram. Click on the thumbnails below to get a larger picture.
